Precision Machinery
Safeguarding Equipment Precision, Operational Stability, and Critical Component Service Life
Precision machinery requires tight dimensional tolerances, accurate motion control, and high levels of environmental cleanliness.
Even minor fluid leakage, pressure fluctuations, dust, moisture, or abnormal vibration can affect equipment positioning, measurement results, and long-term operational stability.
NJK Pro offers O-rings, oil seals, V-rings, Bonded Seals (metal-and-rubber composite sealing washers), rubber gaskets, and custom rubber or rubber-to-metal bonded components.
We evaluate suitable sealing materials and designs based on the operating media, temperature, pressure, vacuum level, type of motion, and available installation space.
Key Requirements: Dimensional accuracy, low friction, wear resistance, pressure resistance, vacuum sealing, dust protection, vibration resistance, and low compression set.
Key Application Systems
1. Dust and Contamination Control
Machine tools, automated equipment, measuring instruments, and precision drive mechanisms may be affected by dust, metal chips, moisture, cutting fluids, and other contaminants.
Seals can be installed around bearings, linear guides, rotating shafts, sensing components, and equipment enclosures to block external contaminants while preventing lubricants or operating fluids from leaking, reducing the risk of wear and loss of precision.
2. Vibration and Impact Protection
During high-speed operation, frequent starts and stops, or actuation of connected equipment, precision machinery may be exposed to vibration and mechanical shock, affecting positioning accuracy, measurement stability, and component service life.
Rubber and rubber-to-metal bonded components can provide cushioning and vibration isolation according to equipment requirements, reducing vibration transmission to precision instruments, drive modules, sensors, and control components. Material hardness, component design, and load conditions must be evaluated for each application.
3. Hydraulic and Pneumatic Control Systems
Hydraulic cylinders, pneumatic cylinders, servo valves, actuators, control manifolds, and piping connections require seals to maintain stable pressure and control the flow of liquids or gases.
Under reciprocating motion, pressure cycling, and long-term compression, seals must balance wear resistance, pressure resistance, low friction, and dimensional stability to reduce leakage, stick-slip, and inconsistent actuation.
4. Precision Motion and Transmission Components
Rotating shafts, bearings, spindles, actuators, and other moving components require stable lubrication and contamination protection to maintain smooth operation and repeatable positioning accuracy.
Seal designs must prevent lubricant loss while controlling contact friction, wear, and breakaway resistance. Excessive seal drag or improper dimensional fit may increase energy consumption and affect motion-control performance.
5. Pressure and Vacuum Chambers
Precision measuring equipment, scientific instruments, vacuum suction systems, and testing equipment often operate under specific pressure or vacuum conditions.
Seals must create a stable gas-tight interface while withstanding pressure differentials, temperature fluctuations, and long-term compression. High-vacuum or high-cleanliness applications also require evaluation of gas permeation, outgassing, particle generation, and contamination risks.
Common Rubber Materials
※Actual operating temperatures and material service life are affected by compound formulation, hardness, operating media, pressure, vacuum level, installation geometry, and static or dynamic conditions. Refer to the technical data and test results of the specified compound for verification.
| Material | Key Properties | Common Precision Machinery Applications |
|---|---|---|
| NBR Nitrile Rubber | Resistant to mineral oils, lubricating oils, and hydraulic fluids, with good wear resistance | Hydraulic systems, pneumatic equipment, gearboxes, and general oil-resistant seals |
| FKM Fluoroelastomer | Resistant to high temperatures, oils, and a wide range of chemical media, with good thermal stability | High-temperature equipment, chemical environments, vacuum chambers, and precision valves |
| EPDM Ethylene Propylene Diene Rubber | Resistant to water, steam, ozone, and outdoor aging; unsuitable for petroleum-based oils | Water lines, cooling systems, oil-free pneumatic equipment, and outdoor machinery |
| VMQ Silicone Rubber | Maintains flexibility across a wide temperature range and provides good electrical insulation | Precision instruments, high- and low-temperature equipment, electronic controls, and cushioning components |
| HNBR Hydrogenated Nitrile Rubber | Provides better heat, wear, ozone, and aging resistance than standard NBR | Heavy-duty hydraulic systems, precision transmissions, and continuous-duty equipment |
The Right Material Depends on the Actual Operating Conditions
Precision machinery seals should not be selected based on product dimensions or hardness alone. The following factors must also be evaluated:
-
Composition of the operating media, lubricants, and cleaning agents
-
Maximum and minimum continuous and short-term temperatures
-
System pressure, vacuum level, and allowable leakage rate
-
Static, rotary, or reciprocating motion
-
Shaft speed, stroke, operating frequency, and breakaway resistance
-
Friction, wear, and pressure-pulsation conditions
-
Dust, particles, moisture, and cleanliness requirements
-
Groove dimensions, surface finish, and shaft eccentricity
-
Equipment vibration, mechanical shock, and installation loads
-
Dimensional tolerances, material certificates, and inspection-report requirements
